COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT FUND
NMCF has received $1.5 million from the Department of Energy – Environmental Management (DOE-EM) to extend grants to qualified nonprofit organizations nationwide that represent communities and residents who are most likely to be affected by the DOE environmental cleanup process and decisions. The purpose of the grants is to increase public involvement at the DOE-EM sites by engaging communities about the issues and local conditions, and to involve them in decisions that are made to clean up and remediate sites.
Since 2012, $1,238,000 has been granted to organizations though out the US. DOE has committed another $285,000 in funding. Funding has the potential to be renewed for another one consecutive year for up to $3.4 million.
